Felicia Chiao - "I Just Want To Go Home"
Harman Projects is pleased to present I Just Want To Go Home, a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Felicia Chiao. For her inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery, Chiao’s playful yet melancholic characters are rendered in her signature colorful, illustrative style.
The whimsical world Chiao has created is populated by smiling plants, dancing worms, a humanoid figure and their companion - a black anthropomorphic nebulous blob. Each of her ink works on paper capture a sense of peacefulness and serenity with relatable undercurrents of anxiety, depression, reflection and curiosity.
Ruminating on the concept of home, both as a physical space and intangible concept, Chiao’s drawings search for a sense of comfort and familiarity. Quiet interior scenes range from spartan, imagined spaces that suggest mental landscapes to grounded architectural spaces depicting the artist’s real life surroundings. Brimming with hidden details, the intimately sized drawings draw the viewer in to ask “Does this feel like home?”
In addition to the exhibition, Paragon Books is pleased to release Felicia Chiao’s first book - Sketchbook 6! A beautiful recreation of the artist’s sketchbook, the book includes 63 full color drawings, notes and a special message from the artist herself. Pre-orders will be available via paragon-books.com.
